The New York State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council will meet on Thursday January 15th for an “informational session” to begin the process for implementing the 2015 New York State Residential Code
One of the topics that will be discussed, of course, is a proposal to mandate fire sprinklers in all one and two family homes in New York State.
We anticipate that the fire sprinkler mandate proponents will be out in full force next Thursday. But unfortunately for us, the Department of State will not have video conferencing from their New York City and Buffalo offices available so our members from across the state can participate
That is why It is vitally important that you take a few minutes to fill out the Voter Voice alert and tell Governor Cuomo and the Code Council that New Yorkers do not support this pernicious fire sprinkler mandate.
The housing market in New York State, as well as our economy has suffered greatly over the last several years. Governor Cuomo himself stated that taxes are driving people out of this state, and are the greatest obstacle to the state’s long-term health. Make no mistake this fire sprinkler mandate would be nothing more than another $10,000-$20,000 tax on anyone buying a new home in this state.
Governor Cuomo recently signed legislation that would require home builders to provide paperwork to prospective buyers on the benefits and costs of installing fire sprinklers in their homes. We believe, like most New Yorkers, that this new law is the reasonable approach, not an unfunded mandate.
Thank you for helping in this fight. We cannot emphasize enough that if the residential construction industry is not heard on this issue it will be read as a clear sign that YOU DO NOT CARE and the state government will continue to force job-killing mandates upon the hard working people of this state.
